Strangers at 47

In a quiet area of SS2 near the former Rothman roundabout stands a little cafe called Strangers at 47. They opened in July 2014 and are known for crepes. 

Trivia: Co-owner Sean Ooi is former VJ Xandria's brother. Together with his girlfriend, Sing Yi, and mum Susan, they did up this lot and are offering sweet and savoury crepes.

We arrived early - just as they opened the doors to the cafe. Outfitted like most of today's joints, expect to see a lot of grey cement with wooden furniture and small floral touches to soften the whole look.

The staff were very friendly and courteous. It almost felt like we were at a new friend's place, minding p's and q's while feeling quite comfortable. The waiter attending to us suggested their Green Tea Latte. While I admit I am skeptical of most matcha lattes due to most people's tendency to use too much powder and generating a powdery textured drink, I decided to give Strangers at 47 a shot.  

The Green Tea Latte did not disappoint :) definitely worth coming for.

As for the crepes, I could only stomach the Red Riding Hood which is a red velvet crepe with espresso cream cheese smooshed in between, married with a sprinkling of crushed coffee bits and a swipe of raspberry coulis. This is topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I am sold with the mix of coffee and cream cheese! It's like red velvet with tiramisu in a crepe. 

If you are in the mood for crepes, Strangers at 47 is recommendable. I kao tim-ed this outlet and you just might see me around again!

My Elephant

My Elephant has been in the little food books of most foodies for its authentic Thai cuisine. It is somewhat casual cafe dining, so space is limited especially in its Sri Hartamas and Section 17 outlets.

We stopped by the Sri Hartamas outlet for a quick lunch as we heard that they have reasonable lunch sets that come with a cooling pandan drink, ranging from RM 9.90 to RM 15.90.

Chicken Maryland with Green Curry

The Chicken Maryland with Green Curry came with a fried egg atop red rice. The piece of chicken drumstick and thigh was cooked thoroughly, with a good coating of batter to create the crisp all fried chicken lovers covet. However, the green curry appeared rather unappetizing, simply because of the layer of oil that floated atop it. It came up to about 4-5 tablespoons of oil being scooped out carefully (God bless our coronary arteries).

We also ordered the Phad Thai, one of the must-haves on the menu. The rice noodles were springy and chewy and the dish was presented beautifully. While I prefer my bean sprouts crunchier, I am aware that crunchier usually means more raw and most people are not great fans of that raw green taste. The chilli was also quite strong, so word of caution to Phad Thai feasters: do not mix all the chilli into your dish!

We arrived at noon and it seemed empty but quickly filled up towards lunch hour. The lunch sets are definitely value for money for hot food.

We'll be back for more, perhaps the Rice with Tom Yum Soup and the Thai Laksa.
